Measuring Your Kitchen

Tools: Tape Measure, Grid Paper (download here), Pencil, Ruler, Rubber One of the key elements to building a kitchen that perfectly utilises the space you have available is an accurate measuring procedure. Following our guide will ensure we build the kitchen you desire.

Before planning anything, we need to know the exact dimensions of your kitchen. Don’t worry if your sketch isn’t completely accurate or neat, it will at least be topographically precise which is more important. With this in mind, we recommend following the traditional joiners practice of measuring twice, so we only have to cut once!

Please note that for extra accuracy and peace of mind, we recommend measuring your kitchen in millimetres. Necessary Steps 1. Ceiling The first step is to simply measure the height of the ceiling and measure any beams or supports that hang down. 2. Wall Space Measure the length and height of each wall, writing down the measurement on the corresponding piece of wall on your grid paper. It is always handy to mark the walls on the grid paper with arrow heads pointing in opposite directions to state where the measurement starts and ends. 3. Doors/Windows It is important to sketch any elevations that will have cupboards on.

Sketching in windows, their sills, doors and the architraves will provide a clearer picture for our designers when they are finalising your design. To accurately measure the height of the windows, start from the floor and end at the sill, then measure the thickness of the sill. Measure the height and width of the actual window and the widths of the architraves around them. Use the same method to measure the doors. 4. White Goods Once you have completed your measurements, if applicable, note where your white goods are or where you would prefer to have them in the kitchen. Measure the width, height, and depth of all of your white goods, writing them down on the corresponding piece of grid paper. If you require housing or fronts on your white goods, please state it. Optional Steps Services If you would like to, using the grid paper provided, note all of the locations of the doors, windows, hood vents, exhaust, gas lines, water lines, drains, switches, outlets, light fixtures, and heat vents. Preferred Cabinets If you have a specific style or layout, please provide us with your preferred cabinet style or dimensions, whether you would like shelving or doors on your cabinets, and the amount of drawers you require. In Summary: Vertical Measurements

• Measure the height of the ceiling (Floor to Ceiling)
• Measure the window height by measuring from the floor to the window sill
• Measure from the sill to the top of the window
• Measure from the top of the window to the ceiling
• For accuracy, cross reference the three previous measurements with the Floor to Ceiling measurement

Horizontal Measurements

• Measure the width of each wall by measuring from Wall End to Wall End
• Measure from the edge of the wall to the edge of the window or door
• Measure across the window or door, outside edge to outside edge
• Measure from the outside edge of the window or door to the end of the wall
• For accuracy, cross reference the previous three measurements with your previous Wall End to Wall End measurements

The Design Stage Once we have received your sketches, our designers will discuss and advise you on any changes that can improve your design to maximise space, and usability.

When the design has been finalised, we will present you with a 3D rendering of your new kitchen via our design software. From there, we can offer you our limitless bespoke service to make your kitchen the relaxing, delightful and enjoyable heart of your home. • If you are expecting large items, make sure there is decent access to the areas that they are going to call home
• Make sure there is plenty of room in your bins to accommodate the additional wrapping and debris
• Cover what you can in dust blankets to reduce the amount of time spent cleaning up afterwards. We want you to enjoy your kitchen the minute it is installed!
