A Day Out in Cambridge (with a bit of kitchen and home inspiration along the way)

If you’re coming to visit our Cambridge showroom, it’s well worth making a day of it…

If you’re thinking about a new kitchen – or even just starting to rethink your home a bit – a showroom visit is rarely a quick in-and-out.

You tend to take it slowly and spend a bit of time thinking… opening drawers, absorbing colour combinations. You might start noticing details you hadn’t thought about before – not just in kitchens, but in how different spaces connect, how storage works, and how things feel to live with day to day.

There’s a reason we wanted to be in Cambridge. It’s a city that seems to value things that are well thought through, materials that last, details that are well worth a careful look... Which makes it feel like a natural place for Naked to be.

So if you’re coming to Cambridge to see us, our advice would be: don’t rush it. In fact, why not make a day of it? The good news is, you’re in exactly the right place…

Start with the showroom

We’re at 39 Regent Street, just by Parker's Piece, right in the middle of things.

The showroom itself isn’t one big open space. It’s a series of rooms you move through… kitchens, but also bits of the wider home: a dressing room, a drinks cabinet, a workspace.

No need to rush round it – allow yourself time for a bit of leisurely perusal. You’ll probably find yourself going back for a second look at something, or noticing a detail you missed the first time.

Coffee nearby

Whether it’s before you come in, or afterwards, there are a few very good coffee spots within a couple of minutes’ walk:

  • Bould Brothers Coffee – just along the road on Regent St, really good coffee with no fuss
  • Fitzbillies – a Cambridge institution (worth the ten minute stroll to the Trumpington St branch for the famous Chelsea buns alone)
  • Indigo Coffee House – slightly hidden away in St Edwards Passage, which makes it feel like a find.

Have a wander

One of the best things about Cambridge is that you don’t really need a plan.

From the showroom, you can cross Parker's Piece and just head into town. Within a few minutes you’re into the older streets, colleges, and all the bits people come to Cambridge to see.

You can go and find King's College Chapel if you like.

Or you can just wander and see where you end up, which is often better.

Head for the river

If you keep going, you’ll eventually hit the river.

Punting on the Cam is the obvious Cambridge thing to do, and guess what, it’s actually as good as it looks. Slow yet enjoyably chaotic and quite funny if you’re doing it yourself. (Very easy: search 'Cambridge punting hire' for a range of options.)

Even if you don’t get on a boat, it’s worth walking along the river for a bit, it makes the day feel like a holiday.

If you fancy something quieter…

If you want a break from the crowds, the Cambridge University Botanic Garden is about 15 minutes away.

It’s a nice place to slow things down again. And if you’re in kitchen-planning mode, a little bit of a nature walk is surprisingly good for colours and materials too, as you start noticing combinations you wouldn’t necessarily think of indoors.

Something to eat

A few options, depending on what you feel like:

  • The Old Bicycle Shop – just a few minutes walk along Regent St, good for lunch or dinner with fresh local ingredients
  • Parker's Tavern – the British brasserie is also very close, and a bit more of a treat
  • Mill Road – slightly out of the centre (a 20 minute walk from the showroom) with lots of independent foodie places

Or just see what you come across; Cambridge is very good for that.

Most people come to the showroom for a specific reason, but they don’t always leave with the thing they expected.

You might come in thinking about a kitchen layout, and find yourself more interested in a colour or a piece of joinery; or how a drinks cabinet or dressing room could work somewhere else in the house.

At the Cambridge showroom you can get a feel for the whole home, and you’ll also see our colours in real light which tend to reveal a bit more of themselves in person.

So if you’re planning a visit, come and see us, have a good look round…. And then go and make a day of it.
